Basic Registration
(not
a studbook level registration)
In order to receive a regular Basic Registration, a horse/pony
must fit into one of the categories below (pedigree history is
desirable but not mandatory for characteristic horses):
-
Horse/pony has a recognizable Appaloosa coat
pattern.
-
Horse/pony has mottled skin AND white sclera
and/or striped hooves.
-
Horse/pony is non-characteristic but proof can
be provided showing the sire or dam was a characteristic Appaloosa.
This proof may be provided via DNA typing, a Breeder’s Covering
certificate, or in the form of a registration certificate from
another Appaloosa registry.
Steps for Registering your
horse/pony:
-
Fill out the Basic Registration form.
-
Enclose copies of any registration papers with
another registry.
-
Enclose 4 color photographs of horse/pony clearly
showing characteristics (front, back, and each side).
-
Non-characteristic horses/ponies MUST provide
proof of parentage in the form of a DNA case number, Breeder’s
Covering Certificate, or a registration paper with another Appaloosa
registry. Click below for Breeder's Covering Certificate and DNA
Type Request Form.
